Filming Prep 1
Welcome back!
We have been working on getting the details covered for our 2 minute film opening, and we have made a few changes to our plan. For example, although my team likes the idea of having one continuous dolly moving through the house, it may be difficult to time this properly whilst adhering to the strict time frame that we are required to meet. For this reason, we agreed to find ways to insert transitions throughout the opening so we can have better control of time. We are contemplating using walls (or other parts of the building structure) or fades-to-black for opening credits to do this.
Originally we planned to have the scenes with the dead bodies be silent, and the flashbacks to the party to have music playing. When the dolly reached the main character’s bedroom, the plan was to do a boom shot to slowly reveal the main character, who would be smiling, covered in blood, and holding a bloody knife. I recently had a different idea, which I relayed to my team. Instead of silence, we may have creepy, soft singing for the dead body scenes, and that would be layered over the music that we use for the party flashbacks. When the dolly reaches the main character’s bedroom, it continues to find the main character sitting, still covered in blood, playing with the bloody knife in her hands, and singing the song that has been playing throughout the opening.
Since the time for us to film is approaching quickly, my team has been trying to find a day for us to do a trial run on location. Unfortunately, we have come across scheduling conflicts and have, in the past couple of weeks, been unable to decide on a day to meet up. We have been texting about ideas and trying to work out all of the details for our opening in the meantime, and once we manage to get most things worked out and tested, we can move on to hiring actors (who will be paid in pizza) and setting a date for filming.
Our next steps are to choose (or write) the music for the opening and get our trial run for filming complete.
To be continued…
