Camera Collage
As a part of the summer assignment for my film class, my classmates and I were instructed to take pictures with a variety of shot types. This assignment was made to enhance our understanding of the range available to filmmakers. Our submission required a collage with descriptions about what each photo angle achieved. My work is shown below:
In making this collage, I first thought about what each photo should include. For example, I read "extreme close up" and immediately thought that an eye was the perfect thing to use. For other shots, I took a couple of days to think them through. Most of the photos weren't taken right away, but some of my ideas did come to me when I was in a good situation to take the pictures. For example, my point of view, long, and low angle shots weren't all planned out previously. I was going about my day-to-day business and thought-- "Hey! That would make a pretty good photo." Other shots were planned out and required the recruitment of subjects. My cousin agreed pretty easily to help me with this assignment, and she can be seen in four of the photos. My dad also agreed readily; he stars in two of the pictures (as does his dog-- thanks Daisy!). Frosty the poodle was very excited to participate as well, and he gave me a few different poses to work with.
To end up with the particular photos that I put to use, it took a few tries. Most of the pictures in my collage come from a small collection of very similar photos, as I had to adjust minor things here and there to get the shots right. Some of these pictures I took with my iPhone camera in hand, but others I had to use the timer function and figure out how to effectively prop the phone up at the right height, distance, and angle. This involved moving a few containers outside, then back and forth on the ground, then carefully positioning my phone, taking the picture, and repeating those steps until I got a useable image. Once I had a bunch of pictures, all I had to do was select the best ones and put them into Canva for captioning.
Overall I do think this was a reasonably fun assignment, and I'm pretty happy with how my pictures and collage came out.
To be continued...
